René Wingelaar performed for the first time at the Denver Day of 3 October 1990 at the age of fifteen. With the exception of the years 1996 until 2001, he sang for us every year, until his very sad and untimely passing on 3 October 2012. Most of the performances were solo, but sometimes he was accompanied by members of his band Nickles and Dimes, or he sang with his fellow Denver Day artists.

René developed into a talented singer/songwriter and produced two cassette tapes, eight CD's with original songs and four CD's with covers. Usually René played one or two of his original songs at his performances on our Denver Days. Posthumously one DVD and two DVD-boxes were released, one of the boxes comprises his performances at Denver Days, more elaborate than the collection on this site.

René played at many occasions and locations. In Holland, but also in other countries, amongst those in 2005 at the yearly John Denver memorial week in Aspen, and after that quite often at events of the English 'Friends of John Denver'. Those performances were brought together at the second DVD-box.

Besides his musical passion, René was a teacher. He was married to Hanneke and father of Noor and Tim.

You can read more about René at his comprensive website with a lot of music and videoclips, and his Facebook tribute page Dreamer Number One, named after one of his original songs.
